Julian Rosefeldt - Amerikanische Nacht (2009)
Julian Rosefeldt, who lives in Berlin, is Germany’s most succesful media artist. His visually powerful multi-channel-installation, often without dialogues but with elaborate filming, hold a fine balance between a laconic humour and a moral wholeheartedness. They are presented in large-scale installations with up to nine screens. Aside from his own artistic work he has regularly designed videos for Thomas Ostermaier’s stage pieces at the Berlin Schaubühne, and German film director Tom Tykwer chose Rosefeldt’s installations as background decoration for the Hollywood production „The International“ premiered at the Berlinale 2009. With his installation "Manifesto", a forceful hommage to artists' avantgarde manifestos, featuring as sole artist Hollywood star Cate Blanchett, he proved recently, that contemporary art and cinema can fit well together.
