Jürgen Klauke - Freischwinger (2001)
Sex, violence, boredom, death: For more than 40 years, Cologne based artist Jürgen Klauke has been using photography to question human existence. Having his roots in performance, he slips into the most various, often shocking roles to establish artificial situations whose formal beauty hides the violence. The film observes Klauke during his work on a new photo series, called “The desastrous I or Consolation for Assholes”, which puts a man into relation with objects and a naked woman, in mysteriously brilliant and perfect images. This look on the artist-in-work is completed with impressions from Klaukes studio in Cologne and his house on Lanzarote, comments of the artist himself and a recapitulation of his work, passing from former transvestite performances (“Transformer”) in the Seventies to recent exhibitions.
